Metra Train Accident Today Wilmette, Illinois — A major disruption struck Metra’s Union Pacific North line Thursday afternoon after a commuter train collided with a semi-truck near the Wilmette station, leaving passengers injured and halting rail service in both directions.
According to officials, outbound UP-N train No. 337 struck the truck around 2:45 p.m. near the Linden Avenue and Green Bay Road crossing in Wilmette. The semi-truck was reportedly hauling heavy milling equipment when the collision occurred.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene as passengers described feeling a sudden hard brake followed by a violent impact. Authorities confirmed that at least two passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The truck driver reportedly exited the vehicle before the crash and was not injured.

The impact caused extensive damage to the trailer and the equipment it was carrying, with aerial footage from the scene showing debris scattered near the tracks and crossing gates damaged by the crash.
Following the incident, Metra suspended inbound and outbound service on the Union Pacific North line, warning commuters to expect extensive delays and seek alternative transportation. Several scheduled trains were canceled while investigators and cleanup crews worked at the scene.
