UW Student Death Seattle, Washington — A homicide investigation is underway after a University of Washington student was found dead Sunday night at an off-campus apartment complex following reports of a stabbing, according to Seattle police and university officials.
Authorities said officers responded around 10:10 p.m. to the Nordheim Court Apartments, a University of Washington-affiliated housing complex located in the 5000 block of 25th Avenue Northeast, after receiving reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they discovered a 19-year-old woman inside a laundry room suffering from critical injuries. Despite emergency efforts by police and Seattle Fire Department personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later confirmed the victim was a University of Washington student. Authorities have not yet publicly released her identity pending notification of family members by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Seattle police said detectives are actively searching for a suspect believed to have fled the scene shortly after the attack. The suspect was described as a man approximately 25 to 30 years old, standing between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a beard, wearing jeans and a button-up shirt. Police warned that the individual should be considered armed and dangerous.
The Nordheim Court Apartments primarily house University of Washington students, including graduate and international students. Residents described shock and fear as police secured the complex overnight and instructed tenants to remain indoors while investigators processed the scene.
Seattle Police Department homicide detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the apartment complex throughout the night gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Officials have not yet publicly disclosed what may have led to the fatal stabbing.
In a statement following the tragedy, the University of Washington described the death as “deeply distressing” and encouraged students to utilize campus counseling and crisis support resources.
